The Females' Center of Exellence and Leadership, Inc. is led by a volunteer Board of Directors who dedicate their time and expertise towards planning, managing and executing programs and events that promote the advancement of women and girls of all backgrounds.
Tricia Brunton founded "The Females' Center of Excellence and Leadership" (Xcel) as a student-focused organization at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, in 2002. Tricia served, as President and member of NU Xcel's Executive Board until 2005.
In 2005, Tricia and then co-Directors, Neakai Lewis, Olympia Valentine, Makeda Keegan and Allison Appel incorporated The Females' Center of Excellence and Leadership in Massachusetts. Tricia continues to lead organizational efforts to provide value added programs and services to its members and the community, while expanding its outreach through resource development and establishing long-term relationships with businesses, community organizations and educational institutions.
Tricia Brunton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Marketing from Northeastern University as well as an MBA and a Master of Science in Finance degree from Indiana University. She is also the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis at Access Health CT, Connecticut's health insurance marketplace and CEO of gomom.me, a social network and resource for moms on the go.
Kevin Brown has worked in the public and not-for-profit sector for over 25 years. Kevin’s professional career began working in Southern California; sales, marketing, and accounting for General Motors Automobile Dealership(s) and with the Pacific Design Center (PDC). Kevin also worked in the accounting department for Lord and Taylor Department Store, 5th Avenue, NY, NY, where he was responsible for new store accounts.
Upon moving to Connecticut, Kevin, worked in Human Services in various leadership roles including Workforce Development Director, YouthBuild Hartford at Co-Opportunity Inc.; Program Director, City of Hartford Men’s Emergency Homeless Shelter at Stewart B. McKinney Shelter; Ryan White Health Resource Case Manager, providing services to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS at Community Health Center Association of CT; and The Central Intake Coordinator, for the Chrysalis Center a Community Based Organization (CBO) providing service to people impacted by mental health and substance abuse issues.
Kevin holds a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Capital Community College. He is also a Fitness and Wellness Instructor at Greater Hartford YMCA. Kevin is passionate about community service and has volunteered with youth programs in Hartford, Bridgeport, Stamford and Windsor, CT. Kevin has also served as a Board Member and Secretary of the second oldest child care center in the state of Connecticut, The Women’s League Child Development Center, has served on the Mayor’s Taskforce on AIDS, Hartford, CT and at Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), “The Domestic Peace Corp”.
